Day 329: Houston, we have a problem..
Yesterday I joked about the ego-bust it is to be considered “non-essential personnel” and allowed to stay home today since UT-H is closed. When the roads look like this, I’m completely content to stay right here in my pjs! ps those little gray triangles.. where accidents have occurred. stay safe yall!

Day 326: Just a little less clutter..
Found this shelf at Target tonight, and I’m in love with it. Yes, I Sarah, am in love with a shelf. It’s so convenient. Keeps all my hair stuff out of the way with all their cords! Does this make me a boring adult yet?

Day 325: A Case of the.. no, you'd get ass kicked...
If my room says anything about the state of my life (which it does), then you can tell that my life is ridiculously hectic right now. Homework assignment, grant due tomorrow, working with a patient all week.. blah.

Day 324: "A man, a plan, a canal, Panama!"
Today is palindrome day. Not really, I made that up. But my dashboard had a palindrome today while I was out driving. And that’s pretty cool.

Day 323: Just Delicious..
Today we went to Just Mac’ for some of the most delish mac n cheese ever. It was even worth the hour we spent lost on I610.

Day 322: Starting lineup..
Tonights agenda: sparkly nailpolish and junkfood. I’ll see you in 1000 calories.

Day 321: Leftovers..
My favorite leftovers are red velvet cake leftovers from Chocolate Bar.

Day 320: #Strugglecity
Sometimes taking pictures with a selftimer is just.. well.. makes the Almond Joy song “sometimes you feel like a nut!” just pop into your head.

Day 319: My version of how to..
This is how you watch videos when bloggers post things sideways.. genius, huh?

Day 318: Oopsy Daisy..
Some days end up like this. And you just gotta laugh about it.

Day 317: How far I've come..
A year ago I was just learning how to write code to do data analysis exactly as I wanted, not just what a GUI offers. Now, I’m writing code for (simple) simulations as homework assignments. It’s a good feeling.

Day 316: How sweet it is..
I woke up this morning and Ian was holding this in his hand… excuse me while I swoon!

Day 315: Like a lady..
Let this day go down in history as the day I discovered red lipstick..

Day 314: This is what progress looks like..
Not really actually. I move in a month and this is how far I’ve gotten. I’m awesome huh?

Day 312: Domesticity
Today Eswen and I proved our domestic prowess by making the prettiest apple tart you ever did see. You’re impressed, right?

Day 310: Feeling cute
.. I’ve found that sometimes, it’s just really nice, to feel cute just for you. Okay not sometimes, all the time. Sunday errands, comfy cute. Pretty much win win in my book.

Day 309: Is that a hippopotamus?
Houston, TX, home of the art car parade. Which means on your way to Saturday brunch, you just might run into a hippopotamus car. True story.

Day 308: Last Friday night..
Tea and episodes of Big Bang Theory. Simply perfect Friday night in my book.

Day 307: Halfway there..
Okay really it’s Thursday so I know the week is more than halfway over BUT it’s just one of those weeks where it feels like the days never match up with where you *feel* the week is and everything seems off. Thankfully for days/weeks like this, I have chocolate! These little babies (called chocorooms) were treats my from stocking stuffers at Christmas and I finally opened them up...

Day 306: Being an adult
Sometimes being an adult is not fun! Tonight I got home only to find out that we couldn’t lock the door to our apartment from the inside. FUN right? So I had to call non-emergency police to be put on hold to call on call maintenance (only to be bitched at that was I was calling him out at 10:30 at night.. sorry I need my door locked to feel safe!) and then he was here for like 30 minutes...

Day 305: Quinoa queen
Dani over at Sometimes Sweet has been talking about quinoa a lot lately and I decided to try it out (again, technically). Although I’m still getting used to the texture a bit, just having the motivation to it again and putting some effort into it is pretty fun. Plus it’s *super* easy to make and can be done in a large batch, which just screams perfect for people who cook dinners for...

Day 304: The good life
When I came home from work today I found that the boy had tidied up my desk area! Yes technically so it was so it could work there too, but I really don’t care causee I have a clean desk for the first time in months. Little surprises make my day!

Day 303: I made it up while I was eating dinner..
Okay really it doesn’t get much better than this. Cuddling + double stuff oreos + watching a movie with your love. Ian made me watch Rocky (1976) because I had never seen it before and I have to say, I really enjoyed it! Considering Philadelphia is one of my favorite cities and my boyfriend’s whole family is Italian, I had even more reason to love it.

Day 302: Terra firma
We landed back in Galveston today. Honestly I’m happy to not be on a boat anymore (the motion is fine, confined quarters was a bit more rough), but I thoroughly enjoyed our very budget friendly vacation! Ian and I had never really gotten to travel before so we really enjoyed being able to see somewhere that was new for both of us. What a great way to start the new year :)
Jan 15th
Day 301: On the road (err.. sea) again
Today we spent the entire day at sea heading back to Galveston. We attempted to play mini golf (just slightlyyy too windy.. by which I mean effective 35mph wind) but ended up just doing a little reading and enjoying the last time we got to watch the sunset from sea, which was one of our favorite things to do everyday. There’s something about sea for miles that makes the sunset just that...

Day 300: Mmmm yes
Today was just well.. about as close to perfect as you can get. We landed in Cozumel about 8am and just enjoyed walking around the port. A little shopping, some snow cones (yes, plural!), and smoking a Cuban cigar on the beach! This isn’t something that’s usually *me* but it’s something the boy enjoys on occasion so I decided to try it out and really enjoyed it! And hey, when...

Day 299: Chicken Pizza
Today we got to visit one of the most important Mayan ruins sites, Chichen Itza (otherwise nicknamed “chicken pizza”). It was absolutely phenomenal and we had an amazing tour guide. Personally, I think this was so much cooler than paying to go get smashed on a beach (one of the other excursion options) :) I highly recommend it if you’re looking somewhere to visit with a more...

Day 298: Cruise elegant
Our second night on the boat the dress code for dinner was what they called “cruise elegant”. Although some people chose to interpret that in interesting ways, we enjoyed the excuse to dress up a little fancier than normal. I happen to think we clean up pretty well! :)

Day 297: Gone baby gone
Today we headed out on our cruise to Mexico! It makes me feel like a ‘real’ adult to take vacation by ourselves.

Day 296: Heading to the other home
So, when you’re packing to come back after receiving Christmas presents, sometimes you have to be, well.. um, creative. These jars for dry goods (flour, etc.) held all my toiletries! I wonder if the TSA guys had any idea what this was when it passed through the scanner. Considering last year I had 2 cast iron skillets in my carry-on, this is becoming a tradition!

Day 295: Later on, by the fire..
I’m really going to miss the fireplace in my parent’s house. It’s been my favorite spot in the house this whole vacation!

Day 294: Success
This year we invited two of our good friends to join us in the annual Fairfax Four Miler on New Year’s Eve! Although it took a little convincing (night run in the middle of winter..), they joined us and it was a lot of fun! This is the after shot :)

Day 293: City lights
Tonight I drove into DC to pick up my dad and brother from the train. This place never gets old, I love how much history you can see just from driving through the city!

Day 292: Drinks out
Tonight my mom and I went out for drinks, just girls! Pomegranate margarita? This acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree:)

Day 291: Leftovers
I think the ubiquitous theme of most holiday breaks is lots of eating. Thankfully, that means leftovers, and this leftover box was telling me “Its Delicious!!!” so, how could I refuse?

Day 290: Game night
I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m completely obsessed with games! Thankfully, some of my favorite people are as well. This vacation I was introduced to the game AppleLetters, which is basically dominos with letters. This was the final board when we played tonight. We also learned that you can make some pretty hilarious stories from the words that come out! (I think the one...

Day 289: Chin forward
Today we had a mini photo shoot with the siblings. Considering the last time this was done was 10 years ago, it’s been a long time coming! Also, not having to leave the house (the photographer is a neighbor of ours) means not having to put on shoes means, more vacation time in my fuzzy socks. Win win :)

Day 288: Winding down..
We’re winding down from Christmas here in our household. The last log to go on the fire is slowly burning out, most everybody is already in bed, and we’re already starting to get back in the hustle and bustle of normal life. It was a really good Christmas as usual, my family is undeniably some of the most generous people. Merry Christmas everyone :) Stay safe during your holiday...

Day 287: The hopes and fears of all the years
I absolutely love the Christmas Eve services at my church. These people have known me since I was about 9 and have literally been a part of my upbringing. Singing one of my favorite hymns by candle light, surrounded by those people = perfection.

Day 286: So. So. So. So. Close.
All the stockings were hung by the fireplace with care.. We’re so close to Christmas. Our indoor decorations are relatively minimal (well, compared to other houses I’ve seen) but I like it that way. The familiar ones make me happy, and I still can’t get out of my favorite chair (see Day 285).  For our Christmas we celebrate with my immediate family (4 kids including me,...

Day 285: Jiggity jig
Home again home again :) Hereby (re-)claiming my favorite spot in the house, right next to the fireplace. Not much else to say, because this is pretty self-explanatory. And by self-explanatory I mean.. pretty damn awesome.

Day 284: The two loves of my life
So normally when girls say “these are the two loves of my life!!” they mean like their hubby and new baby, or hubby and puppy, or anything well.. normal. This is my ridiculous(-ly amazing and wonderful) boyfriend and my one stuffed animal, a turtle from the Baltimore Aquarium. Ian is determined to call him Myrtle (rhymes with turtle), but the turtle is clearly a boy so that name...

Day 283: Chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
So I didn’t realize people actually still DID roast chestnuts on an open fire, but we did! Houston’s 75 degree weather in December was perfect for an outdoors open fire on a plain Monday night. Obvi wine was involved. Turns out chestnuts are delicious. As long as you don’t burn them. Sadly the eclipse did not join us because of some cloudy weather, but all in all it was a great...

Day 282: Texas shaped pretzels
After finishing off the last week of finals, this weekend has been downright fabulous. Ended Sunday by heading over to my good friend Vicki’s house (I was her and her hubby’s first dinner guest!) and we had some yummy dinner, baked banana bread and other sweet goodies. Includinggg chocolate covered pretzels, which just happened to be TEXAS shaped. How genius. But mostly delicious.

Day 281: Hey baby!
This weekend we got to visit our lab’s postdoc and see his beautiful 6wk old baby! She is absolutely adorable and quite precious. I haven’t held a baby that young in a while so it was nice to get my baby fix. (I’m not kidding about the baby fix.. 2 separate people have made the joke ‘If a baby goes missing, see if Sarah has it first…’). It was so much fun!...

Day 280: Baby I like it
Comfy new sweater from my best friend? Friday? All is well in the world. Oh and you may not recognize me because I actually wore my hair down today. CRAZY. Crazy I tell you. And I didn’t put it up alllll day :)
